Malpighia glabra.
A really lovely, low, bush-like tree. It's covered in delicate pinkish white blossoms right now. I like the fruit a lot -- sweet, slightly resinous, a good amount of acidity, very juicy. I see why it's called a cherry, even though it's really not related to the true (European/Asian) cherry.

Your shrub is the Barbados Cherry (Malpighia glabra, in the Malpighiaceae), NOT Suriname Cherry (of the Myrtaceae)
ooops.
