Great shots. We've also had excellent luck with our winter stuff. The mild winter has been a blessing.

These shots are from the end of December - it's only gotten better since then:

Nice to see you have bees, too. We just put a hive on our land this month. Are you planting anything specifically for them?

Hi Michael,

A bit off topic but I saw a while back you were talking about dahlias in your garden and mentioned that you might do some nicer mail-order tubers this time. Was wondering if you've had any luck with them and where you ordered/which kind performed best for you? Thanks!

haven't done it yet... now would be the time!

oh, and, about the bees: bees travel so far, and the vast majority of what they feed in is inconspicuous blossoms... so, absent a field of flowers or the like, i don't think it makes sense to grow anything specifically for bees... that said, i always propagate african blue basil & borage specifically because it makes bees so happy... of course it doesn't really contribute to their foraging, but it's fun to see a basil bush abuzz with bees. oh, and, when it's as dry as it is now, you should definitely consider "watering" your bees by keeping a pile of mulch constantly wet--i have several big flats of pine mulch that catch a bit of sprinkler action and are consistently moist. they are COVERED with bees, drinking the water.

Good afternoon sir. I was searching for Tomande seeds and noticed that they seem to be disappearing from many catalogs. Found them online at Park's but labeled as a "deep discount" as if they may not sell them soon Also found them advertised as a Burpee "exclusive" in their online catalog. Any idea as to what's up? Thank's for any info.

well, i guess cultivars come and go! thanks, deltona gardener, for the warning. some kindly person sent me some tomande seeds (thanks again, kenny!).

i went and bought 3 packets. probably too late to plant them this year, but i laid in a supply for the next couple of years. tomande is really my favorite tomato to grow here. good productivity, excellent flavor, and pretty!

go buy some packets before they're all gone! 75 cents each...
